TiddlyWiki distribution by Jeremy Ruston.Template:Too many links Template:Commonscat I think that TiddlyWiki represents a novel medium for writing, and will promote its own distinctive writing style. Jeremy Ruston had this to say about it:Ī TiddlyWiki is like a blog because it's divided up into neat little chunks (tiddlers), but it encourages you to read it by hyperlinking rather than sequentially: if you like, a non-linear blog analogue that binds the individual microcontent items into a cohesive whole. TiddlyWiki Adaptations typically add features that were not originally envisioned by Ruston, and some of these features have been included in newer versions of TiddlyWiki.Ī feature that sets TiddlyWiki apart from a standard wiki implementation is its content presentation. Links to both these kinds of Adaptations are put in the original TiddlyWiki file as they become known. These fall under two general categories: those that retain the client-side write only feature, and those that add server-side file writing to make TiddlyWiki more like a traditional wiki. Developer Jeremy Ruston describes it as experimental, and in that spirit many people have used the original HTML file to create TiddlyWiki Adaptations. TiddlyWiki is published by UnaMesa under a BSD open source license and is thus freely available. ![]() Because it runs under most browsers and requires no installation, it can be easily used as a portable personal wiki. Existing tiddlers can also be modified or deleted in the same way. Following TiddlyWiki conventions, users can make a new entry, called a tiddler, in their local copy of the TiddlyWiki file and save it for future reference. When the user downloads it to their PC, TiddlyWiki can save the entered information by overwriting itself on the user's disk, at the user's request. It is a single self-contained HTML file that includes CSS and JavaScript code. It requires no installation, features an extensive user interface, packs several advanced functions and lets you access remote content.Template:Infobox Software TiddlyWiki is a wiki-modeled client-side single-page application written by Jeremy Ruston that is designed to be used as a personal notebook. Complex non-linear notebook toolĪll things considered, TiddlyDesktop is an advanced non-linear notebook that lets you create notes and organize information in an efficient manner. ![]() The file advanced options let you reveal the backups for the specified item, whereas accessing the advanced menu for folders lets you define a host and port, in case your content is available in a remote location. You can add TiddlyWiki files or folders directly from the main window by pressing the corresponding buttons and selecting the desired content from your computer. You can turn to TiddlyDesktop if you need an advanced way to create notes, generate to-do lists or organize complex information and share it with others. Create notes and organize them efficiently The configuration menu this program provides you with is rudimentary and enables you to adjust backup-related settings and access the user configuration folder quickly. ![]() However, understanding and making use of them requires that you have at least medium PC skills or previous experience with similar programs since some of them are quite technical. TiddlyDesktop comes with a comprehensive user interface that packs a wide variety of functions. Furthermore, you can run it from removable storage media, such as USB flash drives or external HDDs. More so, it does not modify any of your Windows registry entries nor does it create any additional files or folders on your system without your explicit permission. Since it is a portable application, you do not need to install it on your computer, as simply extracting the contents of its archive and launching the executable grants you full access to its functions. However, certain software solutions such as TiddlyDesktop can help you bypass those unfortunate situations by providing you with a complex environment that lets you store your notes safely. If you work for extended periods of time on your computer, you probably understand that focusing on your projects might make you prone to forgetting significant bits of information.
